Benin Republic captain Steve Mounie has stressed that the Cheetahs are fully prepared for the upcoming encounter against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Recall that Benin Republic secured a remarkable 2-1 victory over the three-time African champions in their previous match in June and the Super Eagles are expected to stage a revenge at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, at 5 p.m. later today, September 7.

Ahead of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, Mounie conveyed his team’s unwavering determination to secure another triumph over the Super Eagles.

“At this moment, our team spirit is incredibly strong and resilient. We are not ones to give up easily. Together, we will display unity on the field, and that will be crucial in tomorrow’s game,” Mounie affirmed during a press conference in Uyo on Friday.

He added, “It won’t matter who scores or provides the assist. The primary objective tomorrow is to attain a positive result.”

Meanwhile, Super Eagles winger Moses Simon, who was recently crowned French Ligue 1 player of the month, has underlined the significance of claiming victory over the Cheetahs of Benin Republic.

Since their impressive performance at the 2023 AFCON final, the Super Eagles have encountered challenges, securing just one win out of five games.

Amid that, Simon has expressed the team’s commitment to delivering an outstanding performance for the fans.

“This is our responsibility. We understand the gravity of the situation. It was disappointing to suffer a 2-1 defeat against them, and we are determined to avoid a similar outcome,” Simon told reporters.

“The team is well aware of what is required to secure a victory. Drawing the game is not our goal; we aim to execute our game plan and give our all to emerge victorious, bringing joy to Nigerians.”
