Kwara State is mourning the loss of Christopher Tunji Ayeni, popularly known as CT Ayeni, who tragically died in a road accident near Ajase-Ipo in the Irepodun Local Government Area early Thursday morning.
The former Deputy Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly was en route to Ilorin when the fatal incident occurred.
Reports indicate that Ayeni was driving a Hilux vehicle accompanied by an unidentified passenger when the accident took place. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the vehicle lost control before crashing, although further investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause.
Ayeni, a prominent figure in Kwara’s political landscape, served as Deputy Speaker from 1999 to 2000 and held several key positions, including Commissioner for Agriculture and Deputy Chief of Staff.
Most recently, he was the 2023 House of Representatives candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but had recently transitioned to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
His contributions to governance and community development were widely recognized, and he held the traditional title of Akogun of Isapa Land.
Reacting to the news, a close associate expressed deep sorrow, stating, “CT Ayeni was a dedicated leader and a man of the people. His commitment to public service was unwavering, and his loss leaves a void that will be hard to fill.”
Tributes have begun to pour in from across the state, with political leaders and constituents alike expressing their shock and condolences. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq extended his sympathies, highlighting Ayeni’s significant contributions to the state.
