Arsenal’s legend and former Crystal Palace manager, Patrick Vieira has been appointed as the manager of Serie A side, Genoa.
The Italian club confirmed the arrival of the French international on its official website on Wednesday, November 20, 2024. Patrick Vieira succeeds Alberto Gilardino, who had been in charge since December 2022 but was sacked after failing the lift the club out of relegation since the beginning of this season.
The board at Genoa decided to sack Gilardino after he was only able to secure two wins in their 12 league matches this season and were knocked out of the Coppa Italia by Sampdoria on penalties.
The arrival of Vieira will see the reunion between himself and Mario Ballotelli. Both of them were at loggerheads when they were at Nice in 2019, Vieira’s tactics were highlighted as the reason why the forward player left Nice in 2019.
Vieira won three Premier League titles and four FA Cups at Arsenal, and silverware with AC Milan, Inter Milan and Manchester City.
