The Lagos State Government has promised to maintain a noise-free environment during and after the Yuletide, enforcing its ‘Noiseless Lagos’ policy to safeguard residents’ health and the environment.
The Commissioner for The Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, alongside General Manager of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), Dr. Tunde Ajayi, announced this at a media briefing in Alausa, Ikeja, on Monday.
Wahab urged residents to minimize noise during festive activities, warning that violators would face arrest and prosecution.
He said, “Yuletide is characterized by numerous celebrations and noisy activities.
“However, we must prioritize the well-being of our people and the environment by regulating noise levels to avoid long-term health and environmental consequences.”
He emphasized the government’s zero tolerance for noise pollution and announced measures to enforce the policy, including:
– Establishment of a special task force on noise pollution.
– Mandatory permits and soundproofing for worship centres, nightclubs, and public events.
– Extensive public awareness campaigns.
– Collaboration with stakeholders.
“This initiative aims to create a peaceful, quieter, safer, and healthier Lagos during and beyond the festive period,” Wahab stated.
The Commissioner also reaffirmed the government’s dedication to implementing environmental reforms in line with its T.H.E.M.E.S+ development agenda.
