The English Premier League and Spanish La Liga ushered us into the new year with incredible fixtures. On the English side, football started immediately on New Year’s day, offering some EPL clubs an opportunity to present their fans with the best New Year gift, a new year win. Arsenal and some other clubs diligently seized the opportunity.
Manchester United played against Aston Villa 21 hours into the year. And with just 2 goals, the Red Devils ushered their fans into the new year in victory and jubilation. Tottenham and Arsenal, though a day late, still elated the hearts of their fans. Tottenham trashed the newly-promoted and energetic side, Leeds, by 3 goals. And Arsenal took it a tad bit higher by beating West Brom away by 4 goals.
Arsenal started the 2020/21 EPL season on a terrible note, sinking the glee of their Fans. The Gunners, who were optimistic about their new coach and players hoped to breeze quietly and victoriously through their fixtures. While the players performed on top gear in the Europa League, they were nothing but awful in the EPL. This poor performance achieved nothing but crushed the hopes of the Fans without remorse. Out of 17 matches, Arsenal has managed to win only 7, draw 2, thereby losing 8.
However, Arsenal’s win against Chelsea on boxing day boosted their form. The Gunners are now on a 3 win streak, the last being exceptional for Arsenal fans. Fans see it as a sign of good things for the year 2021. And hope that with consistency, the team will move higher on the EPL table.
In Spain, only one big name has played but we are hoping to get more action today. Real Madrid put 2 goals past the Celta Vigo defense to win the match. The win also took them to the top of the La Liga table, ousting Atletico Madrid.
The action continues today in all leagues. In the EPL, Chelsea will face Manchester City, a match that’ll be watched by millions. Barcelona will also draw attention to the La Liga, while Bayern Munich and Dortmund will keep the Bundesliga occupied.
