Luiz Suarez is on fire, burning through the La Liga with his new teammates at Atletico Madrid. The former Barcelona player left the club for Atletico Madrid in September 2020 for a transfer fee of £6million in bonuses.

Since joining his new club (a big rival of his former club), Suarez has scored a total of 16 goals in only 17 appearances. The striker scored the only 2 goals for Atletico Madrid yesterday, sadly, it ended in a draw.

Suarez’s exit from Barcelona was controversial, seeing that it was forced. Barcelona’s new coach, Ronald Koeman, showed no interest in keeping Suarez while requesting the signing of Lyon’s Forward, Memphis Depay. Unfortunately, Suarez left and Depay never arrived.

Suarez is Barcelona’s 3rd highest goal scorer with 198 goals in 283 games, being just 1 of the only 2 active players in the club’s top ten goalscorers.

Football fans and pundits, however, overlooked this massive accomplishment for too long. Suarez was often the criticized player after any bad game for Barcelona, blaming the striker for wasting Messi’s hard work.

However, Lionel Messi never felt like that. In short, The Argentine criticized the Barcelona board for pushing Suarez out of the club.

Well, the rejected stone has now become the cornerstone. Suarez is banging in goals for Atletico Madrid, week in week out, keeping them comfortably on top of the La Liga table.

He is now the highest goalscorer in the La Liga this season, with 16 goals, surpassing Messi with 3 goals, and Benzema with 6.
