About thirty persons are believed to have died as a result of a bandit raid on Goronyo township, the seat of the Goronyo local government area in Sokoto state, according to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

On Sunday, October 17, gunmen raided Goronyo weekly Market, killing numerous sellers and buyers, according to reports. Tambuwal confirmed the attack when the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Farouk Yahaya, paid him a courtesy visit on Monday, October 17.

We were confronted with a diabolical attack in Goronyo local government, specifically Goronyo township, between last night and this morning, where scores and tens have lost their lives and counting. The figure is unknown to us. “However, it is in the 30s," the Governor clarified.

Gov. Tambuwal prayed for the army’s victory over criminals, noting that the army chief’s arrival “has come at a very hard time for the army and the Nigerian nation. “In our own neighborhood, we’re dealing with a slew of security issues, including banditry, kidnapping, and other related crimes."

He called for greater coordination between the army and other security forces in the state, as well as the presence of more personnel and the deployment of more resources.

He promised that the army and other security forces will continue to get support from his administration.
