In the Giwa Local Government Area, security forces killed ten bandits and rescued one hostage, according to the Kaduna State Government.
Samuel Aruwan, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, made the announcement in a statement released on Monday in Kaduna.
The ten bandits who were loitering near several flashpoints in the state, according to Aruwan, met a tragic end.
“The heavily armed bandits came into contact with the joint security forces at Kwanan Bataru on the fringes of Fatika in Giwa LGA and were subsequently engaged," he said.
“During the gunfight, ten of the bandits were killed, while several more fled with gunshot wounds. One person, likely to have been kidnapped in a neighboring state and was being held by bandits, was rescued by the troops and is being debriefed at the moment“, he said.
The bandits who managed to flee abandoned several motorcycles, one revolver, cell phones, torchlights, and several charms, according to Aruwan. “One of the sheds used by the bandits to hold hostages was burnt,” he added.
Governor Nasir El-Rufai praised the security forces for eliminating the infamous bandits, according to the commissioner, and wished the army continued success in their current operations across the state.
“The government is appealing to residents of Fatika to report to security agencies anyone found seeking medical attention for questionable injuries on these numbers: 09034000060 and 08170189999. All information received will be treated with the utmost confidentiality,“ Aruwan concluded.
