The Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, has ordered prompt support for victims of diesel tanker explosion in the state.

A diesel-laden tanker fell at First Bank in Agbor, Ika South local government area, when the driver tried to make a turn at the old Lagos/Asaba road.

The tragic incident led to the death of about five citizens of the area. “As I ran to the scene to find out, it was devastating. Five people have been confirmed dead while property, including two banks, were still burning,” an eyewitness narrated.

Governor Oborevwori, who described the accident as tragic and unfortunate, in a statement on Monday morning, commended the efforts of the state’s fire service, security agencies and citizens who mobilized to contain the fire incident.

He disclosed that the state’s Ministry of Health and Emergency Management Agency has been tasked with providing support to victims of the explosion.

The Governor further consoled families that lost their loved ones in the incident.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of Sunday’s fire incident caused by a fallen diesel tanker in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area.

“I have directed the State Ministry of Health, the State Emergency Management Agency, and other relevant authorities to expedite immediate support for all victims of the incident.

“I commend the Fire Service, the people of Ika South Local Government, and security agencies for their efforts in extinguishing the fire and assisting those affected,” the Governor said.
