Nigerian footballer, Alex Iwobi has highlighted the strong camaraderie within the Fulham squad, referring to it as “one big brotherhood.”
This supportive environment has contributed to what Alex Iwobi described as his “best season” yet.
The 28-year-old midfielder has already matched his personal best in Premier League goals, reaching a total of five with half of the season still to play. In addition to his goal-scoring contributions, he has provided three assists, firmly establishing himself as a key player for the team.
“We’re genuinely committed to each other,” Iwobi shared with BBC Sport Africa. “On the pitch, you can see that commitment, but beyond that, there’s a real brotherhood off the pitch. The atmosphere is positive, and our chemistry is strong, which is instrumental in achieving the results we want.”
Currently sitting eighth in the league and just three points behind fifth-placed Newcastle United, Fulham are on an impressive unbeaten streak of seven matches.
Iwobi recently engaged with the community by hosting a Christmas shopping event in Canning Town, where he grew up. He attributes much of the team’s success to Fulham’s manager, Marco Silva, who has fostered a sense of unity within the squad.
“The manager has created a culture where we feel connected,” Iwobi explained. “He encourages me to express myself more on the pitch, allowing me to pursue goal-scoring opportunities. If I make an error, he reassures me to keep trying.”
With this support from both Silva and his teammates, Alex Iwobi feels empowered to take risks during matches. “That level of confidence makes a huge difference”, he said. “It drives you to explore new possibilities on the field.”
Fulham are aiming for a higher placement in the Premier League, a feat they have not achieved since the 2011-2012 season. Iwobi aspires for the squad to compete for European qualification.
“We have the talent to do it, and it’s been too long since I played in Europe,” he shared. “This is a goal I strive for again. We’re ready to take on any challenge and secure those crucial three points. The potential is limitless.”
