Nigerian-born British heavyweight boxer, Anthony Joshua’s impressive knockout of Francis Ngannou in March has been rated the 2024 Knockout of The Year.

Anthony Joshua’s performance, which included a second-round stoppage of the former UFC heavyweight champion Ngannou, was notable amidst a year filled with remarkable knockouts in heavyweight boxing, according to American sports network CBS Sports.

Joshua showcased his skill by dropping Ngannou in the first round and delivering a powerful right hand for a second knockdown in Round 2. He concluded the bout with a powerful overhand right, marking a significant victory over Ngannou, who had previously experienced a controversial split decision loss to Tyson Fury.

However, Joshua’s year also had its challenges, as he faced Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in September, where he suffered the second-best knockout of 2024. Dubois, who secured the IBF heavyweight title with an eighth-round TKO over Filip Hrgovic in June, successfully dropped Joshua four times before delivering a decisive blow that left the former two-time unified champion unable to continue.

Meanwhile, Chinese heavyweight boxer Zhilei Zhang’s stunning fifth-round knockout of Deontay Wilder in Riyadh completed the top three knockouts of the year. Zhang took advantage of a wobbled Wilder with a precise right hand that the former WBC champion could not anticipate, prompting the referee to stop the fight.

Despite the ups and downs, Joshua’s 2024 campaign was marked by significant achievements, as he competed three times throughout the year, ultimately ending with a commendable record of 28 wins, 5 losses, and 25 knockouts.
