An intense firefight reportedly occurred on Thursday as troops of the Nigerian Army clashed with bandits under the command of the infamous Bello Turji.

This confrontation between Nigerian forces and Turji’s camp happened in the Sabon Birni region of Sokoto State.

Abdulsalam Suleiman Izuagbe, a senior consultant and public affairs analyst, who spoke to Daily Post on the development, revealed that travellers are now unable to journey from Shinkafi to Sabon Birni as the gunfire was still on at the time of filing this report.

Izuagbe said: “There is a war going on in Sabon Birni; Bello Turji is facing the Nigerian Army as I talk to you.

“They are exchanging fire in the Sabon Birni area. From Shinkafi to Sabon Birni is no longer safe for anybody to travel, as I’m presently speaking. To think it’s a normal business as usual is missing the point.”

At the time of filing this report, the Sokoto State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Sanusi Abubakar, had not responded to calls or texts sent to his phone.
