David Alaba is inclined to leave Bayern Munich, the current Champions League title holders, in January. The defender has been linked with top sides in Europe’s biggest leagues after Bayern failed to successfully negotiate a contract renewal with the 28-year-old.
Chelsea fans first got the hint that Alaba would be joining the blues. However, without formal negotiations, Alaba remained in the wind, waiting for any offer to swoop him off his feet. While no offers have been made yet, Alaba seems to be interesting not just Chelsea, but Real Madrid, and Manchester City.
Alaba’s request for an increased annual salary was the basis for a back and forth with the club. The club which was no longer having it withdrew any offer from the table for the Austrian defender in November 2020, but failed to tell him directly or personally, leaving Alaba to uncover the news from the internet, just like everyone else.
David Olatukunbo Alaba can be considered a legend at Bayern Munich having played for the club from 2008 through 2020. During that period, he went on loan to Hoffenheim for less than a year, quickly returning to his club of heart.
Alaba played with heart and sincerity. In every match the Austrian featured, he gave his 100%. Throughout his stay, Alaba scored 21 goals and made numerous assists, helping his side secure crucial wins. Alaba, who wore the number 27 played as a left fullback until the introduction of Alphonso Davies. Although, he has played in numerous positions including defensive midfield, and most recently, as a center back.
David Alaba’s passion for football has made him one of Austria’s most decorated footballers, winning for himself numerous personal awards, including clinching the Austrian footballer of the year award for 6 consecutive years.
Is Bayern Munich wrong with how they treated this fine player who dedicated most of his professional football years to the team? Definitely. The club should have found better ways to handle his contract, and when they realized they couldn’t meet it, should have relayed the outcome to the Player.
We wish him luck in his next club and hope he’s treated with more respect.
