China has reaffirmed it’s loath for corruption, as a former official is sentenced to death for embezzlement of funds.
According to reports from Indian Express, the accused, a 64-year-old former official Instagram the north Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region was found guilty of embezzlement of funds, and was sentenced on Tuesday, December 1, 2024.
Li Jianping was said to have been involved in the country’s largest corruption, tuning to the sum of more than three billion yuan, which worth over $421 million.
It was gathered that his death sentence had already been issued oin September 2022, but he upheld an appeal, which was heard in August 2024.
Tuesday’s execution followed the approval of the Supreme People’s Court and was carried out by a court in Inner Mongolia, according to a report by the state-run Xinhua news agency.
