Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has expressed deep condolences to the residents of Mera in Augie Local Government Area following a violent attack by unidentified gunmen.

The governor condemned the incident as “ugly and very unfortunate,” according to a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris.

In a show of support, Governor Idris donated ₦50 million to assist the families of the 15 victims who lost their lives during the assault.

Suspected bandits not only claimed the lives of the villagers but also stole over 100 cattle.

Represented by Isah Abubakar-Tunga, the Commissioner for Higher Education, the governor called on the Mera community to remain steadfast in prayer for the deceased and offered his sympathies to the Emir of Argungu, His Royal Highness Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammadu-Mera, as well as to the grieving families.

“On behalf of the Kebbi State Government, we extend our heartfelt sympathy to the Emir of Argungu, His Royal Highness Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammadu-Mera, and the people of Mera.

“We pray for the repose of the souls of the deceased and encourage the families to find comfort in God’s will,” he said.

Governor Idris assured the public that the state government is actively working alongside security agencies to address crime in the region and appealed to the public to support these efforts by providing reliable information.
