Sir Keir Starmer, the leader of Labour Party, has officially been appointed as the Prime Minister of United Kingdom.

His appointment become official after an audience with King Charles.

The Labour leader had earlier arrived Buckingham Palace just after noon in a chauffeur-driven car ahead of becoming the third prime minister of the King’s reign.

Sir Keir was joined by his wife Lady Victoria Starmer, who works in occupational health for the NHS, and the couple were welcomed by the King and Queen’s principal private secretary Sir Clive Alderton.

Sir Keir Starmer has left Buckingham Palace following his audience with King Charles and his now expected to give a speech on the steps of No10 in front of party members.

Confirming his appointment, Buckingham Palace, in a statement, disclosed that King Charles asked Sir Keir Starmer to serve as his Prime Minister.

It said: “The King received in Audience The Right Honourable Sir Keir Starmer MP today and requested him to form a new Administration.

“Sir Keir accepted His Majesty’s offer and kissed hands upon his appointment as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury.”

His appointment his coming few hours after the defeated former Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, had met the King to tender his resignation.
