The family of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, has initiated a new autopsy to determine the cause of his death.

On June 26, the Coroner Court Magistrate in Ikorodu, Lagos State, T.A. Shotobi, granted Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, permission to hire a licensed pathologist for an independent autopsy.

The court mandated that Aloba cover all costs related to the examination and autopsy. According to Monisola Odumosu, a member of the family’s legal team, the autopsy was conducted on Friday, July 19, and Saturday, July 20.

Odumosu stated that if the initial post-mortem procedure fails to determine the cause of death, the family plans to conduct toxicology and histology tests on the samples obtained.

“The second autopsy, requested by the Aloba family and ordered by Magistrate T.A. Shotobi, took place on July 19 and 20, 2024. This is a two-part process, and if the initial examination doesn’t reveal the cause of death, toxicology and histology tests will be conducted,” said Odumosu.

The legal team further noted that the autopsy was witnessed by Mohbad’s father and two pathologists appointed by both him and Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi.

The procedure was observed by Mr. Joseph Aloba, the forensic pathologist he appointed, his legal representatives, and a pathologist appointed by Wunmi Aloba,” the statement added.

Mohbad, who died at the age of 27 on September 12, 2023, left the Marlian Music record label, owned by Naira Marley, in February 2022.

His death led to controversies and the arrest of Naira Marley and Lagos socialite Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry, among others.

Following Mohbad’s death, his body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy to uncover the cause of death.

A pathologist testified before the Coroner’s Court on May 15 that the decomposition of Mohbad’s body hindered the determination of the cause of death.
