The federal government of Nigeria has condemned a car attack which happened on Friday at a Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany.
The government of Nigeria, in a statement on Saturday, signed by the acting spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, condemned the attack, which reportedly killed at least five persons and injured more than 200 others.
A man drove his car into a crowded market on Friday, and overran people in the market, resulting in the death of some and injuries to several others.
Reacting, the government of Nigeria condemned the action and sent condolences to the government of Germany over the incident.
The statement reads: “The Federal Republic of Nigeria wishes to express her sincere condolences to the Government and the People of the Federal Republic of Germany following a car attack on a crowded Christmas market on Friday 20th December, 2024 in Magdeburg, Germany.
“The unfortunate incident, which led to the death of five persons and over two hundred injured, is highly condemnable.
“Our thoughts are with the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany and the families of all those impacted by the dreadful action.”
News reports in Germany said a 50-year-old Saudi doctor who has lived in Germany for almost two decades has been arrested by the Police in connection with the car-ramming incident.
While the police have commenced an investigation, some reports in the country described the incident as an act of terrorism.
