The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms across various parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday.

The agency’s weather outlook, released on Sunday in Abuja, provides details on the expected weather conditions.

On Monday, thunderstorms are forecast in the morning over parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, and Borno states. Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated in areas including Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Taraba, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto.

NiMet also predicts thunderstorms in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara states during the morning. By the afternoon and evening, isolated thunderstorms are expected in Kwara, the FCT, Niger, Benue, and Kogi.

In the southwest, morning rains are expected over Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, and Ogun, extending to coastal regions such as Lagos, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa.

Later in the day, thunderstorms are forecast for Enugu, Edo, Ebonyi, Ondo, Abia, Osun, Imo, Ekiti, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, and Lagos.

On Tuesday, morning thunderstorms are expected over Taraba, Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, Sokoto, and Zamfara.

Later in the day, storms are anticipated in Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Bauchi, Taraba, Gombe, and Adamawa.

Additionally, the FCT, Niger, Benue, and Nasarawa are expected to experience thunderstorms in the morning, with further storms likely later in the day across the same areas as well as Plateau and Kwara.

For the southern region on Tuesday, morning rains are forecast in Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Imo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Rivers, while other parts will remain cloudy.

Thunderstorms are expected in Oyo, Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, Imo, Edo, Delta, Lagos, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Rivers by the evening.

On Wednesday, NiMet predicts morning thunderstorms over Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Borno, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Kebbi.

Isolated storms are expected in Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba, Kaduna, Kano, and Katsina later in the day.

Thunderstorms are also expected in parts of Niger and Kwara, while other North Central states will remain cloudy in the morning. By the afternoon, storms are forecast for the FCT, Plateau, Nasarawa, and Benue.

In the southern region, morning rains are expected in Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom, with cloudy conditions prevailing elsewhere.

Thunderstorms are forecast later in the day for Imo, Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ekiti, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Edo, and Delta.

NiMet has advised residents in flood-prone areas to take precautions as heavy rainfall may cause urban flooding, particularly in major cities.

Strong winds are likely to accompany thunderstorms, so the public is urged to stay safe and adhere to advisories from relevant authorities.

The agency also advised airline operators to regularly check for updated weather reports to ensure safe operations.
