Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has acknowledged that the team must improve to avoid the threat of relegation following their recent setbacks.
After Monday night’s 2-0 defeat at home to Newcastle United, Ruben Amorim expressed the need for a change. This loss marked the third consecutive defeat for the team in the Premier League.
Historically, the Red Devils have maintained their position in the top flight since winning promotion back to the old First Division in 1975. However, with the team now sitting only seven points above the drop zone at the season’s halfway mark, Amorim is keen to instill a sense of urgency.
“I believe that relegation is a possibility, and we owe it to our fans to be transparent about that,” Amorim noted. “We need to make some changes, but we can use this challenging season as an opportunity to grow stronger together. It’s crucial that we remain determined and fight through this.”
After the disappointing result against Newcastle, where Alexander Isak and Joelinton scored in the first half, Ruben Amorim emphasized his commitment to the club and his desire for immediate progress.
“I came to Manchester United to make a difference, not to offer excuses,” he stated. “Fans are understandably looking for results, and we recognize that our club needs a jolt to reinvigorate our performance.”
In a moment that showed his accountability, Amorim took responsibility for substituting Joshua Zirkzee early in the match. With United two goals down within the first 20 minutes, he took Zirkzee off after just 33 minutes, a decision met with mixed reactions from the home fans.
“It was certainly a tough moment for Zirkzee, and I empathize with him,” Amorim reflected. “As the manager, I have to own these decisions. In challenging times, especially at a top club, it’s about hard work and rapidly implementing changes to address these difficulties.”
