Since the discovery of the corona virus, there have been rumours about treatments and cures. The latest of these rumours is that pineapple can be used to cure the virus.
Yes. The pineapple you know.
In 2020, studies were conducted by the U.S and international health bodies like the W.H.O to ascertain the effectiveness of pineapple as an antiviral. Also, according to a study conducted by a professor in Uni Ilorin, the fruit can be used to control the growth of the corona virus.Â
However, some people have deduced from these studies that the fruit can not only control the virus but cure COVID-19.
This has made the price of pineapple shoot up as many households are stocking up on it. For instance, once upon a time, there used to be #50 and #100 slices of pineapple in many parts of Abuja. Now, the cheapest slice in the market is like a slice of bread and it’s 100 naira. It won’t be surprising if this fruit becomes scarce in the market because apart from it being in high demand, sellers might begin to hoard it. Trust Nigerians to intentionally make something scarce just to increase its price.
But, it’ll really be nice if it’s confirmed that a common fruit like pineapple can really cure the virus, won’t it?
How much is the fruit in your area? What’s the difference between the price now and then? Tell us in the comment section.
