The US embassy in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv said it would be closed on Wednesday after it received “specific information of a potential significant air attack.”
The Greek, Spanish and Italian embassies in the city are also shut for security reasons.
Also, the White House is set to announce a support package for Ukraine worth up to $275 million today, which “will include munitions for rockets systems and artillery and anti-tank weapons,” US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said.
The United States has also approved sending anti-personnel mines to Ukraine for the first time, according to two US officials — another major policy shift after it allowed Kyiv to strike targets deep inside Russia with American missiles. Human rights groups have long criticized use of anti-personnel mines because they can kill indiscriminately and can remain armed for year.
